EF 1A: Grammar: Word Order in Questions – Present

When we ask questions in the present tense, we need to follow a specific word order. The structure is:

Question word (Who, What, Where, etc.) + auxiliary verb (do/does) + subject + main verb + object

[auxiliarity = pomocné]

Here are some examples:

  • Do you drink a lot of coffee or tea?
  • What time do you go to bed?
  • How long do you spend on Facebook every day?

When forming questions, remember that the auxiliary verb („do“ or „does“) comes before the subject.
